Subject:Half-Blood Prince movie and premiere
Security:Public

I have my tickets to see Half-Blood Prince at the Empire cinema in Leicester Square. For some reason the Odeon there doesn't have it this time, despite hosting the premiere tomorrow. At least, I assume it is, it's almost always the one that holds premieres and it's held all the other Potter ones. Speaking of the premiere I'm going to be there tomorrow. My brother's bringing over a camping chair which means Mum and I have two. We're going to try and get a spot right in front of the barrier, in a good posision, set the chairs up and then stay there. We'll pack the chairs up again closer to the time. We have to get there early and hope for a stroke of luck. We've been decidedly unlucky in the past with the premieres, we haven't had a very good position. I did manage to get an autograph last time though from Tom Felton. :) Hopefully this time I'll get Dan's and Jo's. I just hope the weather is okay. Last time it rained, right as the stars were arriving, which meant a load of umbrellas went up and blocked our view even more. Grr! It's been a bit rainy today but it's supposed to have moved on by tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather people are right for once.

Subject:Blood test results and published again!

Mood: happy

First the blood test. Turns out I have mild hyperthyroidism, which is basically an over-active thyroid gland. It can increase metabolism, which accounts for my weight loss. The doctor says it accounts for my other symptoms too. It's treated with medication which I have to get through outpatients. I'm relieved it's nothing more sinister.

Also, I've had another letter published, this time by Writing Magazine. It's about paper books vs ebooks.

The Lake District was great. We stayed in a little holiday village on a marina. It was an upside down cottage with a balcony outside the living room over the marina. The area is really beautiful. We visited Beatrix Potter's house and William Wordsworth's house and his gardens, and we went on a couple of boats. The weather even stayed okay for most of the first half.

Back now though, and thinking about my writing. Also thinking about the Potter (Harry this time, not Beatrix :D) convention I want to try and set up. The people I've emailed about coming in on it with me still haven't replied even though one of them already said he was interested. I hope nothing's happened to him. Maybe his computer's broken down. Haven't seen him on Facebook either.

Loads of post on the doormat when I got home including a letter from the medical centre saying the doctor would like to see me about my blood test results but that there's nothing to worry about (said if anything serious were found they would use a different recall system). I'm hoping they've found something really, and that it's something treatable. I'd rather that than be told the blood test is fine and have to do other tests that may be more unpleasant for all I know to try and find out if anything's wrong.

So I'm off to the lake district tomorrow. :) Doesn't look like the weather will be good though. Then again the weather people often get it wrong so fingers crossed it won't be quite so bad as they're predicting. The place we're going has internet access so I might be checking in. Haven't got the blood test results yet but maybe I can ring them today.

See you guys in a week!

My doctor's appointment was today. She doesn't think the symptoms are likely to be caused by the iron because the tablets should have sorted it. I have to have blood tests on Monday. I think the main thing she's checking is my thyroid glands. She says the weight loss might be caused by increased exercise with no change in diet. All theory at the moment of course. She said not to worry too much so I hope I'll be able to enjoy my holiday next week. We leave on Saturday. Lake District - woohoo!

Not long after I come back is my birthday (25th). I'm trying to decide what to do on that day. Might take a day trip to Oxford. I really liked it there when I went to Accio. And then on the 28th is the Hogwarts Jamboree event in London. I've never been to a wizard rock concert but I hear people (*cough*pinstripers*cough*) talking about how fun it is so I'm looking forward to it.

Trying to get people to help organise a Potter convention at the moment but people aren't cooperating. One person has said he's interested but I haven't been able to get ahold of him since (I hope he's okay - maybe his computer's gone kaput). And I've emailed another. I really want to do this so I hope I can get people together. Might have to hire professional conference organisers too though, so as to have jobs and social lives as well. :D

Has anyone seen the new clip from HBP where Ron's eaten the chocolates? Rupert's acting is perfect! He's really come in leaps and bounds. Funny how shy people often do well as actors. I guess the shyness comes from not being good at speaking spontaneously, I know how that feels all too well. I love his facial expressions when he says, "Snogging? Who are you talking about?" and "Romilda of course. Romilda Vane." Harry's expression at the end was funny too.

Mood: angry

My brother James and his fiancé Nicola have just come back from Florida. They said it was quite good and Nicola said she'd like to go back, but their report of it has disappointed me a bit. They saw the site of the new Harry Potter park but said all they could see is one roller coaster and a small castle. It doesn't look that big to them (they're going to send me the pics they took). And they said most of the movie-themed parks are just a couple of rides, a gift shop and a fast-food restaurant, all over-priced. He also said it's not really worth going to Disney etc if you don't like rides, which I don't really. They didn't see all that much they wanted to buy (apparently it's really, really hard to find any clothes for slim people there). You need to book in advance to get into the restaurants in the parks and they're really just regular food with an extra $5 slapped onto the prices.

What annoyed me most was that they didn't see one single thing to do with Harry Potter. Not one single thing whereever they went, not anywhere in the big malls - NOT EVEN the novels themselves!! Seriously, they went into a couple of book shops and asked where their Harry Potter stuff was and were told that they didn't stock them! And we're not talking tiny independent bookshops here, at least one of them was huge. By the time they left they would have bought a cheap little keychain if that was all there was, but there was nothing. Not even Beedle the Bard which is still in the children's chart here. James said it's like the books never existed there. Not a single sign of it, not the smallest hint. I suspect Nargles are behind it. Or Twilight. :( Stupid consumer-driven tourist places, they only care about what's current.

I beg anyone from any part of the world (because if she's alive she could be anywhere) who has not yet seen the picture of what Madeline might look like now to go to www.findmadeline.com and see it (the video on the first page), and to make sure that everyone they know sees it too. If she's alive she must be found and returned safely. If she's dead, which I hope with all my heart she's not, then we need a body so that her parents can have closure. And please do anything you can to help - donate, buy something from the shop, or even just send a message of support to two parents who are battling on against the odds.

Thank you.

I finished my temp job today but there are more projects coming up with that company and the guy said he'd call me about it. I'm going to look for other stuff too.

Yesterday, though, I worked reeeeeeally late! From nine in the morning to nine in the evening - twelve hours! Good thing I was being paid by the hour. I started to stress out as it got later and later, eating up my limited free time at home. I hadn't eaten since lunch either. It's just a good thing I had McDonalds instead of bringing lunch.

Today on the other hand I got in and was told that with the project being in the final stages there wasn't much of the work I'd been hired to do left, and was placed on call for the morning. Which meant I got to go and explore Oxford Street and have lunch in a restaurant. I bought some things from Waterstones - a tiny little fancy writing book, The Guardian's Style Guide and The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Gouge, which I've read before. I also got a hair clip in H+M. After lunch I went back to work to see if they needed me at all and they didn't so I got to go home. Woke up at 6.30am for nothing but I don't care because I got a day out and some new stuff. :D

My brother and his fiancé are bring their rabbit over tonight which we have to look after while they're in Florida. She's a very independent rabbit, doesn't like being stroked. James said if I can train her to accept strokes from people while she's with us he'll give me £50. Lol.

Today was my first day at my new temp job. It's amazing how you can use a program like Microsoft Word for years and years, get a job that involves using it, and find out that it does loads of things you never even knew about. Lol. The job's okay, not the most interesting in the world but suitable for my skills and temperment. The project we're working on I think is a pitch for the company to design the new library in Liverpool. The guy showed me pics of what it would look like. It's a beautiful building outside, really old, but I think they're planning on modern grounds landscaping with modern art in it and stuff. *Grumbles* The inside is bright and welcoming but considering the age of the outside it's a shame they're not going to have an old look inside. I LOVE old-looking libraries with big tall dark wood shelves and echoing floors and a sense of 'shh!' Lol.

The real thing that bothered me about today is that I got one of those headaches that affects your stomach too. I bought and took a paracetamol and after a while it started to work on my stomach, and just the head on its own was bearable, but then on my way home the stomach came back again (probably the moving around and train movement). The head's still there, though dulled, and my stomach's still sensitive, but I'm better than I was.
